MICHAEL R. FOLEY PHOTOGRAPHYHOME | Blog | ContactNEWSLETTER - AUGUST 2009Hi all! I've been busy this summer with a variety of projects - family portraits, commercial jobs and the occasional headshot client. Deb's been busy raising the little one, incubating his little brother or sister, and building her web design business. Check out her site at sanclementewebsitedesign.com FilmI purchased an old medium format film camera recently and have been doing some experimenting. It's totally manual, with no electronics, batteries, etc. You have to meter the scene yourself using a light meter (or take a good guess) to determine the shutter speed and aperture setting. Really fun stuff. Somehow, it's more artistically satisfying than digital, and the results are simply incredible. I think there's something to the delayed gratification involved and the deliberate, step by step technical aspect of manually exposing a frame that makes it so much more rewarding. It's also fun dealing with a fully organic, chemical process. It almost seems like magic: an image is created simply by exposing some film to light. I know, we were all doing this before digital, so what's the big deal and why am I being such a dork? Not sure, just think I might be moving back toward film for some projects. It's just more fun. I've posted a few examples on my blog here: michaelrfoley.com/photoblog. If anyone's interested in being a model/guinea pig for me as I learn to use this system, please feel free to contact me. VolunteeringI'm volunteering as a teacher at the San Clemente CyberCafe. This fall I'll be doing a course on Photoshop Elements. Don't have all the details yet regarding how to register, etc., but I can get it for you if you'd like to take the class. HeadshotsEveryone needs a good headshot. Got a website? You need a headshot. Got a business card? You need a headshot (maybe). Running for Congress? You need a headshot (if you're not devious-looking and generally unattractive). OK. Not everyone needs a good headshot. I lied. But if you're one of those who do, I can provide you with a high quality, studio headshot for a very reasonable fee. O.K. - That's it for this time, short and sweet. Hope you're having a great summer! Adios! Mike |
